Porn: Everyone watches it whether they admit it or not and I was once a successful Pornstar who obtained many accolades during my ten plus years of performing in professional adult movies. Then, one day I decided to take the very terrifying plunge to quit it all and take my power back by creating my own content. I was placing a halt to giving corporate conglomerate porn companies the ability to make money off of my body for pennies on the dollar. I wanted and knew I could make more on my own if I only could figure out a way to monetize my name, Brett Rossi, and my brand.
How it started:
Now don’t get me wrong, those very same corporate conglomerate porn companies gave me my start in the business and helped me grow my brand, which ultimately gave me the ability to become a successful content creator. They aren’t necessarily ‘bad’ and I am thankful for them as well as the time I spent contracted with major companies within the industry, however I knew I could use my brand to make an income I could only dream of making without giving someone else control over my body. When I was a teen, I was working as a runway model making peanuts. I was tall, skinny, flat chested and I dreamed of being portrayed as sexy woman, so when I turned 18, I got a boob job and auditioned to become a Playboy model. During this time, The Girls Next Door was a major pop culture phenomenon and every young woman at the time wanted to become a Playmate because the show portrayed it as the ultimate power move which would give you many opportunities within the entertainment industry. After many auditions and tenacity, I became a Playboy model. This opened many doors for me such as being featured and given the title of a centerfold in many men’s magazines like Hustler, Penthouse, Cheri, etc. I then was discovered by Howard Stern and I was given the title, Miss Howard Stern for his Howard 100 cable show. After I was featured on The Howard Stern Show, even more doors opened for me and I was offered the opportunity to become a contract star for a company named Twistys who was owned by the largest porn company in the world. This large company also owns Brazzers, Digital Playground, Reality Kings and more.
I was at the top of my game and I was making great money starring in movies, however I knew these companies were making way more off of my body than I was, so I knew something needed to change.
Why I Quit Porn:
Around 2019 I discovered fan subscription platforms, which was created to give individuals the ability to create their own content and sell it on their platform for a small percentage. It was at that moment it clicked, and I decided I wanted to take charge of my brand and become a full-time content creator. I then decided to retire from mainstream porn and start creating my own content. Content creation wasn’t as easy as everyone thought it would be and at first, I felt like I was in over my head. It required more time and dedication than just simply showing up to set, doing your job and collecting a check. The money wasn’t guaranteed like when I was getting paid making movies. Creating content meant having dedication and consistency to succeed. Eventually, I was making more money than I had ever made before because I was posting, creating and engaging with my fans consistently. When the pandemic hit, I become even more dedicated to making quality content that my fans could enjoy while they were locked away in their homes.
Where I Am Now:
In conclusion, becoming a content creator has given me the financial freedom that I could only dream of. It has allowed me to go to school where I have earned several degrees and certificates. I was able to dabble and learn different trades, pay off my debt, buy my dream car, have a roof over my head, food in my fridge and most important, build a savings. When I did professional porn, it’s not like I wasn’t able to be financially free, however I was giving companies the power to control my brand to make money off my body - money that belonged to me. At the end of the day, we are the ones
putting ourselves out there publicly creating a scarlet letter on our foreheads. We will always be judged by society negatively, so why not make as much money as we can?
